Goldey-Beacom College announces new trustees

WILMINGTON — Dorrell Green and Melody Phillips are new members of Goldey-Beacom College’s board of trustees.

Mr. Green has served as a teacher and as an educational leader for three of Delaware’s largest public school districts.

Mr. Green is the superintendent for the Red Clay Consolidated School District. His career in education began 20 years ago in the city of Wilmington when he served as a teacher at Bancroft Elementary School and Stubbs Elementary School. After honing his skills in the classroom, he embarked on a path to leadership, working as an assistant principal at Stubbs and then as the principal of Harlan Elementary School.

Mr. Green made transitioned to district leadership in 2011, when he was named director of elementary education and Title I services for the Brandywine School District. From 2012 to 2017, he served as the assistant superintendent of the Brandywine School District. Mr. Green joined the Delaware Department of Education in 2017 as the director of innovation and improvement. While at DOE, Mr. Green was instrumental in leading many of the trauma-informed practices that are currently in many Delaware schools.

Mr. Green is an organizational leadership doctoral candidate at Wilmington University. He holds a Master’s in Education in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Teaching Education, both from the University of Delaware.

Known as one of the Top 100 all time and strongest team leaders in Blue Hens history for football, Mr. Green was inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019. A resident of Wilmington, he and his wife, Bonita, have a son (Jordan) and two daughters (Jada and Jasmine).

Ms. Phillips is committed to building community partnerships with organizations that provide meaningful opportunities to young people to help them thrive and grow.

Ms. Phillips is the director of pperations for The Warehouse, a state-of-the art teen center For Teens, By Teens in Northeast Wilmington.

She currently serves as the board chair of I Am My Sister’s Keeper, an organization she co-founded with Charlotte Miller-Lacy. MSK is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of girls and women. It provides rites of passage curriculum, leadership development and social-emotional skills training to girls ages 12-18 years old.

Ms. Phillips is a Delaware Today 2019 Women in Business honoree. She has received awards from other organizations including the City of Wilmington, the state of Delaware and My Sister, My Friend I Celebrate You.

Ms. Phillips holds a master of arts in forensic psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, a bachelor of science in criminal justice from Saint Joseph’s University, a paralegal certificate from Delaware Technical Community College and is a certified behavior analyst technician through the Providence Service Corporation.
