Gloria Massey Lowe

Gloria Massey Lowe, 88 LAUREL - Gloria Massey Lowe, age 88, of Laurel, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010. She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Ralph Waldo Emerson and Mae Lally. She was a dedicated mother and homemaker and enjoyed working on the family farm. Later in life, she worked for the Methodist Manor House. After retiring in 1984 from the Methodist Manor House, she volunteered at the Nanticoke Hospital & Laurel Senior Center for several years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and Sunday School; a member of it0 United Methodist Women and Mary Circle. She was a member of the Laurel Senior Center, she was a Star Point Ruth in the Eastern Star Chapter 18 of Laurel and a member of the Nanticoke Hospital Auxillary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting and traveling on trips with the Senior Center and friends. She will be greatly missed by her five children, James A. Massey of Galestown, Md, Albert H. Massey and his wife Marge of Laurel, Rebecca Riggins and her husband Richard of Seaford, Mae German and her husband Paul of Millsboro, and Ralph C. Massey and his wife Shirley of Seaford; step children, Jean Hickey of Seaford, and Ralph Lowe of Laurel; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Harry A. Massey in 1973; and her second husband, Carlton Lowe in 1995; seven siblings, Paul Emerson of Australia, Bill and Ralph Emerson of VA, Ruth Steinbrum of Pa, Veronica (Ronnie) Wright of Va, Virgina Mellace of PA, Helen (Dolly)Conaway of MI. She was also precedeced in death by a stepchild, Jim Lowe; and a grandson, James A. Massey Jr. Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, in Watson-Yates Funeral Home;, Front and King streets, Seaford, where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the services. Rev. Wayne Grier will officiate. Burial will be in Galestown Cemetery, Galestown, Md. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church; Market and Poplar Streets, Laurel, DE 19956.
