Glenn Elwood Huffer

LAUREL - Glenn Elwood Huffer died on June 6, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. He was born in Gaithersburg, Md. on Sept. 20, 1936, the son of the late Ernest F. and Violet B. (Duvall) Huffer. Mr. Huffer graduated from Sudlersville High School in 1954 and that same year joined the Army National Guard where he served for 25 years. He was honorably discharged in 1979. He married Betty Marie Mabrey in 1954, she predeceased him in 1986. He later remarried to Barbara Warren in 1988. Mr. Huffer began his career with Delmarva Power as a lineman on July 18, 1960; he retired, after 35 years, as a safety supervisor in 1995. Mr. Huffer was a member of Centreville Lodge #180 AF & AM, the Scottish Rite, as a 32 degree mason, with Valley of Salisbury and Baltimore, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and past President of the Square Club. He was also a life member of the Vingt Cinq Club (25 year club with Delmarva Power and Light Company), The Laurel Delaware American Legion, N.R.A., Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, and Founder of Delmarva Chapter of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in 1992 where he was a Habitat Partner. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of various hunt clubs. Mr. Huffer was an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters Shelia H. Burke and her husband, Michael, of Ashburn, Va.; Sandra L. Huffer of Annapolis, Md.; Denise Violet Yetzer and her husband, Stephen Boyd of Charlottesville, Va.; step sons; James H. Willey, Jr. and his wife Joann of Salisbury, Md.; Warren E. Willey of Georgetown, Del.; grandchildren Ryan Michael Burke, Ashley Marie Burke, Violet Marie Yetzer, Grace Elaine Yetzer, Boyd Allen Yetzer, James H. Willey III, and Jessica L. Willey. He was predeceased by a son Kevin Glenn Huffer in 1983. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at noon at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD 21620. Relatives and friends may call two hours prior (10 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made Delmarva Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation c/o Walter Griffitts 691 Wheatley Road North East, Maryland 21901.
