Glen Hartsock

CLAYTON - Glen Hartsock passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at his home.
He was born on Jun. 26, 1946 in Hiam, Ky., the son of the late Fred Jackson Hartsock and Jewel Geneva (Ray) Hartsock.
He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1964 and went on to serve his country with honor as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. During his service, Glen was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal 2nd Class, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.
Mr. Hartsock retired from Millwright Local Union 1545, after a nearly 30 year career at the Delaware City Refinery. After retirement, he worked for several years for Home Depot.
Glen enjoyed being with his family, fishing, yard work, gardening, tinkering in his garage, and most of all being a Papaw to his six grandchildren.
Glen is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon Ann (Terry) Hartsock; children, Steven Hartsock, Jonathan Hartsock and his wife Dawn, and Sarah Hardy and her husband Greg; grandchildren, Tyler Hartsock and his wife Gabrielle, Zack Hardy, Jarrett Hartsock, Mason Hartsock, Gabriel Hardy and Genevieve Hardy; sisters, Ann Smith and Kay Perry and her husband Jim; and all of his extended family which includes aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m.
A private burial with military honors will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
