LINCOLN - Glasco E. Dukes, 94, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Country Rest Home, Greenwood. He was born in Concord, Delaware son of the late Emory Elmer Dukes and Ida Ethel (Callaway) Dukes. Glasco was raised and worked on the family farm and in the farming industry. He also worked for Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, Maryland manufacturing air planes until he was drafted in the Army Air Corp. He attended gunnery school in Florida, and Ops training on the B24. He served in the England 8th AF, flying combat missions. He then served in Germany and European theatre. After completing his tour, he went on to Richmond, VA, TX, and Harlingen AFB and was in charge of the B29 gunnery system. He was honorably discharged and then re-enlisted 6 years later to Andrews AFB, then Alaska and finally Dover AFB. Eight years later he served at Rhein-Main AFB in Germany, Strategic Air Command until retiring from Wurtsmith AFB in Michigan. He retired, in 1969, from the USAF and US Army Air Corp as a Tech Sergeant and Training Supervisor of Field Maintenance. He received numerous awards and citations, but most notably the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Metal with 3 oak leaf clusters and the ETC Ribbon with 3 stars. Glasco was instrumental in the starting of Christian Tabernacle in Lincoln and the Frederica Baptist churches. At the time of his passing he was a member of Heritage Baptist Bible Church in Greenwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all six of his siblings, Charles E. Dukes, Mary Williams, John Dukes, Huldah Callaway, Lula Bryan and Mabel Williams. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Melvina (Horne) Dukes; two children, Glenn Michael Dukes and Gail Marlene Sickore both of Tenn.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, August 7, 2015 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call for a time of visitation at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Laurel Hills Cemetery in Laurel. Flowers are accepted.
