Gladys Barnes Davis, 82 DOVER - Gladys Barnes Davis, 82, of Dover, died on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Pinnacle Nursing Home. She was born December 14, 1927, in Edgecomb County, N.C. Her parents, Mattie Lee Joyner Bullock and Elder Dave "Papa" Bullock, predeceased her. She married Javan Davis, now deceased on April 27, 1966, in Washington, D.C. Gladys attended Carver High School of Edgecomb County, North Carolina. Mrs. Davis resided in Goldsboro, N.C., Frankfort, Ky., Greenhill, Md., and Dover. She retired from Playtex Products International. She enjoyed cooking, ceramics, and reading the Bible. Mrs. Davis was actively involved with the Calvary Baptist Church Missionary Board, Jewels, Widow's Group, Floral Guild, Hospitality Committee and the civic organization, Just Friends of Dover. Gladys is survived by her son, Steven Davis of Newark; daughter-in-law, Lori Davis of Newark; grandson, Jourdian DeBerry; sister, Louise Freeman of Stantonsburg, N.C.; brother-in-law, Willie Freeman; goddaughter, Marnecie Gorham; cousin, Helen Gorham; spiritual goddaughters, Doris Scott, Elder Louise Holt, and Wanda Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, the Calvary Baptist Church Family and New Hope Holiness Church. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 30, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover. The funeral will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 1, at the Calvary Baptist Church, Fulton and Queen Street, Dover. Interment will be July 1, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Arrangements were by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
