Gladys Ann Wilkerson, of Dover, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior
on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Gladys was born October 17, 1941 in Kenton, Delaware to the late Allee
Lowman and Florence Taylor Lowman. She moved to Leipsic early in life and
attended schools in Dover.
She was a school bus driver for the Capital and Caesar Rodney School Districts
for over 40 years. Gladys especially loved her kindergarten runs. Gladys sold
Avon to her local community and enjoyed the many friendships gained through
that job. She also worked in the office at Spence’s Bazaar. She enjoyed
cooking, canning, gardening and supporting the ministries at Dover Bible
Chapel and the local Gideons Chapter. Gladys had the gift of hospitality. She
had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Norman
Wilkerson in 2025; her grandsons, Dylan Kyle Wilkerson and Robert Kenneth
Hawkins, and her siblings, Charlotte Henry, Fletcher Lowman and Doris Daniels.
Gladys is survived by her four children, Norman Wilkerson Jr. (Janis) of Hartly,
DE, Rachel Wilt (Ricky) of Middletown, DE, Mary Lou Hawkins (Robert) of Felton,
DE, and Norma Jean Denham (Jim) of Middletown, DE; fourteen grandchildren
and 29 great-grandchildren; along with sister Bessie Eglit.
Gladys will be remembered for her sweet smile and the love she had for her
family and friends along with her steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and her service
for the Lord.
Funeral services will be held 10AM, Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Torbert Funeral
Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. A viewing will be held from
4-6pm, Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery,
Camden.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Gideons
International, Central Delaware Camp, P.O. Box 622, Dover, DE 19903.
