Gertrude Maltese

DOVER - Gertrude "Trudy" Maltese, age 84, of Dover, died July 9, 2014 at the Courtland Manor Nursing Home in Dover. Born in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Martin and Anne Corley. She and her late husband, Frank Maltese, moved from Jersey City, N.J. to Dover, in 1964 where she was employed as a secretary with the General Foods Corp. for over 32 years. She retired in 1996. She had been an active member of Holy Cross Church where she became involved with the Catholic Youth Organization. She was a member of the Maple Dale Country Club where she oftentimes golfed. She was a long-time supporter and member of the Dover Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1903. Trudy was an avid bowler and both she and her late husband seldom passed on an opportunity to attend a local dance. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Martin Corley; and by her sister, Mary Rowan, Madeline Smith; and twin sister, Gloria Gillespie. Trudy leaves three sisters, Mildred O'Kane of Arlington, Texas, Rita Achong of Spring Lake Heights, N.J., and Dorothy Cannon of Manchester, N.J. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Monday, July 14, 2014 from 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St. Dover. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
