SEAFORD - Jesus came for Gertrude B. Dill on Oct. 20th. She was 94 years old. She was a loving and committed wife for Ralph B. Dill, Jr. for 64 years prior to his passing in 2005 and the loving, caring and supportive mother for her two sons, Ralph B. Dill, III and his wife Brenda D. Dill of Cambridge, Md., and Kenneth C. Dill and his wife Lorraine K. Dill of Roanoke, Va. She was born on Jan. 5, 1917, in Wilmington, the daughter of Mateusz and Theodora Janicki. Besides her husband, she was pre-deceased by four sisters and two brothers, Ann Nurkiewcz of Baltimore, Bernard Janicki, Charles (Pud) Janicki, Katherine Wagner, Helen Strycharz and Jenny Lipka, all of Wilmington. Surviving her are two sons and a sister, Anita Germak of Wilmington, plus many nieces and nephews. She considered all of her husband's brothers and sisters and the children of her oldest sister as siblings, Caroline Bishop and Mary Jane Berger, both of Wilmington and Renetta Biebel of Baltimore. A devout Catholic, she grew up on Wilmington's East Side and graduated from Wilmington High School. She married Ralph B. Dill, Jr. in 1938. During the war, while her husband served with the Marines in the Pacific, Gertrude lived in Bellefonte DE with her mother-in-law, Carrie Dill and worked at Bond Crown and Cork. In 1951, the family moved from Wilmington to Delmar and later moved to Laurel, where they resided until moving into the Methodist Manor House in Seaford in 2005. Gertrude enjoyed homemaking, her women's club, travelling and her family and home on Laurel Lake during all those years. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Ralph Jr. passed away shortly after their move to the Manor House. Gertrude eventually came to accommodate this reality and lived independently but she never stopped grieving his loss. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. Family and friends visited one hour prior to the services beginning. Following the services, she was buried next to her beloved husband at All Saints Cemetery, Kirkwood Highway. There was a reception after the funeral. In lieu of flowers, Gertrude has requested donations to be made to the SPCA, Sussex Chapter, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, the people at VITAS Hospice Care and Mom's private aides, Tawana Thomas, and especially Tammy White, Martina Cannon and Dr. Vance Prewitt of Laurel. www.mealeyfuneralhomes.com
