DOVER - Gerald Kent Pruett, of Mechanicsville, Va., died peacefully on the morning of April 22nd, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; and his brothers, Harold and Robert. Kent grew up on a farm in W.Va., and always had a great love for working the land. In 1943 he answered his country's call in the U. S. Army, serving honorably in the Pacific during the Second World War. In 1953, he married Clara Lewis of Tazewell, Va., and they settled in Dover, Del. There they raised two sons, Michael and Mark. Clara passed in 1978, and Kent retired from International Playtex Corporation a few years later, after over thirty years of service to the company. Kent retired to Virginia to be closer to family, and has lived the last 19 years with his son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Margaret; and his grandchildren Amelia and William, in Mechanicsville, Va. In retirement he returned to his love of the land, planting and tending to a vegetable garden every year. Kent is survived by his two sons, Michael Pruett and Mark Pruett; his brother, Dale Pruett; and seven grandchildren, Amelia Buchanan, William Pruett, Timothy Pruett, Thomas Pruett, Katherine Capito, Daniel Capito, and Keri McBride. Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 26th, at Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington, Del.
