GEORGETOWN — Delaware State Police continue to investigate a single-vehicle crash that killed an 81-year-old Georgetown man last week.
The victim, identified as Michael Jeffra, was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on Dupont Boulevard north of McColleys Chapel Road between Georgetown and Ellendale on April 17 around noon when the vehicle gradually exited the west edge of the road and struck a mailbox, road sign and large embankment.
The Explorer subsequently caught fire. Bystanders pulled the unresponsive driver from the vehicle and began performing lifesaving efforts on him. Rescue personnel took Mr. Jeffra to an area hospital, where he died.
Authorities originally thought Mr. Jeffra suffered a medical emergency before the crash, but further investigation revealed he died from injuries received in the accident, police said. State police closed Dupont Boulevard for about two hours while investigating and clearing the scene.
Delaware State Police Troop 5 continues to investigate this crash. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Cpl. Grade 1 K. Marvel at 302-232-3435. Information also may be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the state police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
