George T. 'Sleepy' Joines Sr., 73

TOWNSEND - George T. 'Sleepy' Joines Sr., of Townsend, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was 73. George was born Feb. 20, 1935, on Taylors Bridge Road, near Townsend, the son of the late George A. Joines and Elsie D. Sapp. He served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, riding motorcycles, and repairing cars. He taught many lessons to his children about life, and he cherished being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 45 and a half years, Madeline Sweetman Joines; a daughter and son-in-law, Carole L. and Harold F. Schrader of Smyrna; a son, George T. Joines Jr. and his companion Kristen Starkey of Smyrna; six grandchildren, Jennifer K. Schrader and Julie R. Schrader, both of Smyrna, Elizabeth K. Joines and Megan L. Joines, both of Marydel, Kaci L. Joines of Smyrna, and Ryan D. Chillas of Smyrna; two sisters and their husbands, Grace Ann and Gary Johnston of Pennsylvania, and Joan and Ray Lindsey of Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cherished friends. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce Street, Smyrna, where friends may call Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery, Townsend. If desired, contributions may be sent to Nemours Partnership for Childrens Health, Medical Directors Residence, 1600 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803. Please make checks payable to Nemours.
