George T. 'Teddy' Burd, 77 DOVER - George T. "Teddy" Burd, of Dover, died peacefully at home Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009. He was 77. He was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Easton, Pa., the only child of the late George T. Burd, Sr. and Dorothy Denninger – Burd. Mr. Burd was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He, his wife and sons owned and operated Burds Paving for 50 years retiring in 2000 due to illness. He enjoyed working on and taking their Antique car to shows. Mr. Burd was a member of the Historical Vintage Car Club of Milford, Chev. and Model T Car Club. He will be remembered as a man of his word, a loving and faithful, husband, father, and grandfather. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a still born son in 1965; two sisters-in-law, Marianne Luff, and Laura Gourley; a dear family friend, Cora Reed. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Gourley Burd of Dover; two sons, George T. Burd, III of Dover, Douglas M. Burd and his wife Valerie Burd of Milford; daughter, Mindy Burd of Magnolia; three grandchildren, Kaleb and Kasie Burd, and Autumn Gourley; brother-in-law, Charles Gourley of Dover; sister-in-law, Margaret Clough and her husband Watson of Dover; his aunt, Mildred Gamble of Newark; and many nieces, nephews and cousin. He is also survived by his dear friends, John and Sylvia Dowell, Mickey and Virgil Chance and Linda Mori and Shelby Burd. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 29, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to First Southern Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 761 S. Little Creek Road, Dover, DE 19901; or Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
