CHESTERTOWN, Md. - George Samuel Williams, Sr. died on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at Chester River Hospital Center. He was born on May 3, 1922 in Chestertown, Md., the son of the late James F. Williams, Sr. and Mary Usilton Williams. Mr. Williams attended Chestertown High School. He worked on his family's farm at a very young age. He married Ruth Ann McGinnes, who predeceased him in 1970. They lived in Chestertown where they raised six children. Mr. Williams worked for 31 years manufacturing, producing, and distributing for Haddaway Bros. Scrapple and Sausage business. He also worked as a race horse trainer with Moffett Farms for 26 years. In 1982, he married to Vera Ann Townsend. Mr. Williams retired in 2006. He loved horses, rabbits, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Williams is a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Worton, Md. In addition to his wife, Vera Williams, he is survived by four daughters, Marlene Hill of Hartley, Betty Yoder and Rudy of Dover, Ruth Ann Cathell-Tribbett of Dover, and Georgia Sandra Leonard and Wilbur of Chestertown, Md; a step daughter, Sandra Jordan of Wye Mills, Md.; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Doris Marie Hurst; son, George Williams, Jr.; three brothers, Benny Williams, James F. "Jimmy" Williams, Jr., and Albert Williams; and four sisters, Louise Hutchinson, Betty Ball, Roadie Solloway, and Evelyn "Bootsie" Gears. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD, where relatives and friends may call one hour prior (1 to 2 p.m.).
