George Robert Ellers Sr.

'Fiddle Play'n Bob' Ellers Sr. HARRINGTON - George Robert "Fiddle Play'n Bob" Ellers Sr. was born to the late George Irvin Ellers and Grace Marie (Melvin) Ellers on Aug. 10, 1930, of Harrington and departed his life on Aug. 29, 2011. He attended Harrington School until the 8th grade at which time he worked on the Family Farm west of Farmington, farming and running a saw mill with his Dad. He left for Nashville, Tenn., in 1948. While in Nashville he befriended and played with many Country artist at the Grand Ole' Opry. He resided with Roy Acuff, who was a close friend and fellow fiddle player. He packed up his fiddle and returned home to the Family Farm in 1950. He played music with many local bands in our area for years. He was a "Jack of all Trades". Many in the area would look to Bobby to fix just about everything. He taught a Diesel Mechanic class at the college in Georgetown for a few years. He had various jobs thru out-the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, two daughters, and his wife Sylvia Ellers in 1988. He is survived by two sisters, Irene Layton and her husband Sam, and Leila Kenton, both of Harrington; two sons, George R. Ellers, Jr. and his wife Mary of Bridgeville and Samuel "Roy" Ellers, Sr. and his wife Margo Ellers of Harrington; three grandchildren, Virginia Eastman of Felton, Samuel R. Ellers Jr., and Tracy Lynn Ellers, both of Harrington; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley N. Eastman, James R. Eastman, ReBecka G. Ellers, Joseph R. Ellers, Samuel R. Ellers, III, and Todd J. Ellers. A very special thanks to his Hospice aide and friend LaToria and his caregiver's Margo Ellers and Tracy L. Ellers. Funeral arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
