MILLINGTON - George R. Simon of Millington, Md., died Sunday, April 29, 2012 surrounded by his family at Safe Haven Manor in Sudlersville, Md. George R. Simon was born on July 29, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the son of the late Willam Rudolph Simon and Livinia "McIlvain" Simon. Mr. Simon attended Millington High School where he loved to play sports. In 1944 he was drafted to the United States Navy and served his country in WWII where he was stationed in the South Pacific. During his time in the military George was in the Seabees. On July 29, 1948, he married his late wife Dorothy L. O'Neal. Throughout his entire life, he had a passion for working. Some of his jobs included driving trucks for Burris Foods, Baker Driveway, A.J. Williams and Quail Run Nursery. In addition to being a school bus contractor, he and his wife owned and operated an assisted living facility and the Mill House Restaurant. George was a member of Frank M. Jarman Post 36 and a past member of the Post 192 as well as the Teamsters Union. He loved helping his community and everyone in it. George also enjoyed gardening and traveling. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simon was preceded in death by his wife Doris Simon; one son, George R. Simon Jr.; two brothers, William C. and Harry Simon; and one son-in-law, Claude "Moe" Morales. He is survived by one daughter, Edie Morales of Millington, one daughter- in-law, Darlene Johnston and her husband Sam of Millington; one brother, Irvin "Pee Wee" Simon of Smyrna, Del.; one sister, Betty Lockwood of Sudlersville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St. Millington, MD. Services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Asbury Cemetery following the service.
