George L. 'Lanny' McClary, 71 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - George L. "Lanny" McClary, of Chestertown, died on April 24, 2010, at Chester River Hospital Center. He was 71. Born in Baltimore, Md., on Oct. 22, 1938, he was the son of the late William E. and Alice Warner McClary. He graduated Rock Hall High School class of 1956 then served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959 and was a proud Navy veteran. Mr. McClary worked for the Arnold Corp/Reynolds & Reynolds as a salesperson for 30 years. In 1986 he began a 2nd career with Sutton Towne Stationers as their Xerox sales representative and worked there until 2009. For many years Mr. McClary also worked and managed the former Old Wharf Inn in Chestertown. Mr. McClary loved to sing and was a member of the Bayside Barbershop Chorus, The Chorus of the Brandywine and the Pride of the Chesapeake Chorus. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling. Mr. McClary was a past president of the Delmarva Golf Association and served in several capacities at Chester River Yacht & Country Club where he was also a winner of many flighted invitationals and tournaments. Mr. McClary loved to volunteer and give back to his community, in doing so he was a past chairman of Kent County March of Dimes, former chairman of Muscular Dystrophy Association of Kent County, former chairman of Kent County Heart Association and also served as the Eastern Shore delegate for the Maryland State Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chestertown. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra Hadaway McClary; and daughters, Lori McClary and her fiancée Nathan Smith of Selbyville, Del., and Shelly McClary-Reid and her husband Robert of Salisbury, Md. He was predeceased by a brother, William E. McClary, Jr. Services will be 1 p.m., today, April 28, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown. Interment will be in Chester Cemetery.
