DOVER - George J. Weis died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013. Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late George F. and Magdalen Mohr Weis. He had served as Warehouse Manager for General Foods of Dover and after 39 years he retired in 1983. He was a longtime faithful member of Holy Cross Parish and had served on the Parish Council. He was a Past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Jersey City, N.J. Mr. Weis was also a member of the BPO Elks of Dover, Maple Dale Country Club, and White Oaks Civic Association, as well as a former Coach with the Dover Little League. He enjoyed a 30 year retirement during which he traveled world wide and played golf. George loved sports and played basketball, bowling, fished, played cards and watched football. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Jets and was a man who could just about fix anything. He often built toys for his grandchildren and cherished the time spent with his family and friends. George thoroughly enjoyed life and those around him. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Thompson Weis in 1976; and by his second wife, Margaret "Peg" Jennings Weis in 2009. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Nancy B. Weis of Newark, Lawrence G. Weis and spouse Lorna of Viola, Thomas M. Weis and spouse Lisa of Dover, and Mary F. Bradley and spouse William of Dover; four step-children, the very Rev. Paul F. Jennings, Jr. of Chester, Md., William E. Jennings and spouse Nancy of Hockessin, Margaret J. Clark of Wilmington, and Constance J. Gallagher and spouse Francis of Hockessin; three brothers, John of N. Arlington, N.J., James of N. Arlington, N.J. and Gerard of Union City, N.J.; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. Dover, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Holy Cross Church, S. State St. Dover. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
