George Henry Ames Sr., 90

REHOBOTH - George Henry Ames Sr., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was 90. Mr. Ames was a dump truck driver for Delaware Department of Transportation and worked out of the Gravel Hill yard in Georgetown, retiring several years ago. Mr. Ames was loved and admired by his family and was a true family man. He enjoyed raising his family and instilled many important values in their lives. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Ames. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Juanita (Hardy) Ames; 13 children, William Ames of Somerset, N.J., Daisy Williamson of Lewes, Leroy Ward of Alexandria, Va., Mary Ward of Brooklyn, N.Y., Leon Ward and Peggy Ward, both of Alexandria, Va., John Hall and Donald Hall of Milton, Brenda Maull of Lewes, George H. "Butch" Ames Jr. of Milton, Carolyn Ames of Browns Mills, N.J., Marc Hall of Lewes, and Robert "Bo" Ames of Milton; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Lloyd; and brother, Joseph Ames, both of Cape Charles, Va. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park.
