Gary Lee Redden, 57
CAMDEN - Gary Lee Redden, of Camden, died in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, on Saturday, June 7, 2008, after battling a long illness. He was 57.
Born in Chestertown, Md., on May 9, 1951, he is the son of the late Harold Redden and June (Elbourn) Severe of Harrington.
Mr. Redden was a signal supervisor for the Delaware Department of Transportation. He retired after 32½ years of service.
He was an avid outdoorsman who grew up as a farm boy and that never left him.
Mr. Redden enjoyed hunting, fishing and crabbing.
He especially enjoyed deer hunting and holds three Delaware muzzleloader deer records.
Mr. Redden also had an interest in archeology.
He was a good man who was wonderful with children; teaching them respect and love for people and the outdoors.
He will be remembered for being extremely level-headed and calm, strong, independent, intelligent and reliable, his wonderful sense of humor, and being generous with his time, talents and possessions.
Mr. Redden was excellent at troubleshooting an issue and had an ability to fix anything. He had an ability to grow anything, like vegetables, flowers and fruit trees.
Above all he will be remembered for his devotion to his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Diana G. Redden; a son, Eric J. Redden of Petersburg, Va.; two brothers, Roger Redden of Smyrna, and James Redden of Harrington; two sisters, Lois Pinson of Seaford, and Nancy Grant of Harrington; as well as his extended family and countless nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Rock Hall, Md., where friends and family may call one hour prior.
Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Gary's memory be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
