Galen C. Shriver, 97
SMYRNA - Galen C. Shriver, 97, of Smyrna, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, after a short illness. Born in Warwick, Md., Mr. Shriver lived in Linwood, Delaware County, Pa., until he was 19. He then moved to Florida where he resided for the next thirty-three years before moving to Smyrna. He owned a service station in Linwood for thirty years. His first wife of thirty-eight years, Elizabeth Laughead, his second wife of thirty-eight years, Thelma Crosgrove Corson Shriver, step daughter Ruth Burnham, brothers Joseph Shriver, Clinton Shriver, Oscar Shriver, Kenneth Shriver and one sister Kathryn Shriver King all preceded him in death. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Thelma Wilson and her husband Charles; granddaughter, Larraine Horrocks and her husband Larry with whom he lived; granddaughters, Linda Roath and her husband Robert, Lana Schiller, Debbie Downing; grandsons, Larry Piasecki and his wife Penny, Herbert Burnham, William Hamilton and his wife Katie, Glenn Wilson and his wife Charlene; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will 7 p.m. today, July 1, at the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, Commerce Street, Smyrna. Immediately following the service will be a small reception in the fellowship hall of the church.
