DOVER - G. Dan Enterline Jr. was born in Shamokin, Pa., on Jan. 14, 1931. Dan was the son and only child of former state auditor G. Dan Enterline Sr. and Eleanor Brennan Enterline. Young Dan was a musician and Eagle Scout who graduated from Dover High School in 1949. In 1954, he graduated from the University of Delaware. While in college he was elected Student Government President and was active in the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Dan was involved Delaware politics. He was elected as the first vice chairman of the State Federation of Active Young Republicans, eventually serving as a Committeeman for the Kent County Republican Party. In 1968, Dan was named co-chairman of the Rockefeller for President Committee in the State of Delaware. In 1969, Dan joined the staff of the newly elected State Governor, Russ Peterson, where he worked as the Governors administrative assistant. In 1973, Dan worked as administrative assistant to Lt. Governor Eugene Bookhammer. In 1977, Dan was hired by Governor Pete DuPont to act as a liaison between the Governor's office and the Delaware Legislature. Dan also worked as the campaign manager for U.S. Congressman Thomas B. Evans Jr. In addition to his business, Dan Enterline Real Estate, which he maintained until his death. Dan raised cattle on his one hundred acre east Dover farm "Hazel Tract." He served on the Board of Directors for the Maryland –Delaware Forage council and a term as treasurer for the Delmarva Beef Cattleman's Association. G. Dan Enterline Jr. was active as a legislative and political advisor to Delaware Wild Lands Inc. He also served as president for The Shepherd Place Inc., a facility for the homeless in Kent County, Delaware. Dan was also a devout Catholic, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David H. MacKelcan. G. Dan Enterline Jr. is survived by his three sons, Thomas, Paul, and Daniel; daughter, Laura E. MacKelcan; and daughter-in-law, Robin. He enjoyed four grandchildren, Mac, Eliza, Rachel, and Davis. He loved and was loved, he will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 522 Main Street, Marydel, Md. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A reception will follow the viewing until 9 p.m. Interment will be private.
