CLAYTON - Freddie R. Brant, of Clayton, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 25, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover. He was 67. Freddie was born in Deep Creek, Md., May 28, 1941, to the late Gerald and Beluah B. O'Brien Brant. Fred was a retired Steel Worker from Forbes Steel and Wire Corp. in Wilmington where he worked for almost 40 years. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran. An avid hunter and proud card member of the NRA, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed feeding and watching his hummingbirds. A devoted family man, Fred took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends playing cards and drinking coffee. A deck of Phase Ten cards and Word Find were always close by. The Church of the Nazarene was an important part of his life where he cut grass and helped out any way he could. He will be truly missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Bobby Brant. Freddie is survived by his wife, Patricia D. DuBois Brant, who was always by his side for 46 years; a daughter, Sharon Reider, her husband John, and their two sons, CJ and Eric of Townsend; a son, Brian, his wife Jenny, and their two daughters, Samantha and Danielle of Newark; daughter, Angie Brant and her daughter Sarah McMillan of Clayton; a brother, George E. Brant and his wife, Jeanie of Orriville, Ohio; and three sisters, Joyce A. Parker of Hockessin, Doris Brant of Williamsburg, Va., and Sandra Corbin and her husband Bill, of Oakland, Md. Services will be 8 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, where friends may call from 6 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Faith Church of the Nazarene, 1010 Duck Creek Road, Smyrna, DE 19977. Letters of condolence may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
