FREDERICA - Fred S. Cressey, of Frederica, died Monday, June 9, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 76.
He was born in the state of Washington to Ralph and Peggy Cressey.
Mr. Cressey served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force.
Mr. Cressey was very patriotic and used the values instilled in him through the military throughout his life.
He would do anything for his country, and always kept a flag flying. If you did not have an American flag and wanted to display one, he would buy one for you.
Mr. Cressey was a hard worker, and kept very active even after his second retirement, the first from the U.S. Air Force, the second from the state of Delaware in the Sign Shop.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching all types of sports on television, and following NASCAR.
His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.
Mr. Cressey also was an excellent swimmer, and swam at the Modern Maturity Center three times a week.
He will be remembered as a "to the point" individual, but he always put his family first, and spent as much time as possible with the grandchildren.
He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Cressey is survived by his loving wife, Betty M. Cressey of Frederica; children, Robert L. of Felton, Wanda J. of Greenland, N.H., Linda A. of Dover, and Calvin J. of Hazlettville; a brother, Gary Cressey of Redding, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services will be noon Thursday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
