DOVER - Fred C. Lord, Jr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Dover.
Fred was the son of the late Fred C. and Gertrude E. Lord Sr., also of Dover. He was a 1956 graduate of Dover High School and a 1960 graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
Fred, a lifelong resident of Dover, spent his youth running the streets of Dover with friends and had never-ending stories of summers at Kitts Hummuck. He was a longtime member of Mapledale Country Club, playing golf with Martha and cards with friends. He enjoyed tailgating in Newark and surf fishing in Dewey Beach. He was very involved in local politics. In addition to holding the office of Levy Court Commissioner from 1974-1978, he supported numerous campaigns, in various capacities, all in support of the Democratic Party in Kent County. Fred retired as a Justice of the Peace (Court #7) in 2006, after working in sales for Salisbury Brick Company and Chestertown Brick Company. Most of all, Fred adored his wife of 52 years, Martha M. Lord, until her death in March 2014.
He is survived by his four sons, F. Clark III, of Wilmington, Steven A. of Dover, Jeffrey A.(Debbie) of Dover, and Christopher M. (Karen) of Wilmington. He also leaves behind eight wonderful grandchildren, Ellie (23), Hunter (22), Cami (21), Haydan (19), Lucy (19), Topher (17), Carrie (15), and Charles (14).
A service honoring Fred's life is to be determined as Covid-19 regulations permit.
