LINCOLN - Frank Albert Sheldon, of Lincoln, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at home with his wife, Kathy, by his side. He was 84. Frank was born in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of Frank B. and Erna (Borgstedt) Sheldon. He grew up outside of Philadelphia. Following High School, Frank enlisted in the Navy and served on a mine sweeper during WWII. After completion of his military service, Frank attended Temple University where he graduated with degrees in chemistry and geology. He first worked at the Quartermaster in Philadelphia, then for Sherwin Williams in N.J., ending his professional career as a chemist specializing in pigments and color for Reichhold, Inc. in Dover. Always intellectually curious, Frank had many hobbies and interests, including sailing, antique collecting, photography, painting, and astronomy. Frank was a founding member of the Dover Art Leaque and taught watercolor for the Milford Adult Education program for a number of years. He had a lifelong love of the sea and was well known for his watercolors, especially of the Delmarva seascapes and lighthouses. Frank was a member of the Delmarva Stargazers and a longtime editor of the organization's newsletter. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter J. Sheldon; and his first wife, Carol Peterson Sheldon. He leaves behind to celebrate his life his loving wife, Kathleen Sheldon; a daughter, Karolyn Sheldon Hayes and her husband Paul of Milford; two step-sons, Christopher Apostolos of Lincoln, and Michael Apostolos and his wife Lara of Viola; three grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, and Alexander Hayes; three step-grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, and Mia Apostolos; and one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Maupin, who all affectionately called him Be-Bop. Finally, Frank will be missed by his Chihuahua, Rosie, who was his constant companion and nurse through his long illness. A memorial service celebrating Frank's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Friends of the DuPont Nature Center, 2992 Lighthouse Rd., Milford, DE 19963; or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford. Arrangements handled by Rogers Funeral Home, Milford.
