Francis Hamm Raughley Jr., 86 WILMINGTON - Francis Hamm Raughley Jr., 86, of Wilmington, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Christiana Hospital. Mr. Raughley was born in Dover, June 11, 1922, to Francis Hamm Raughley Sr. and Lillian McKee Raughley. He graduated from Dover High School and the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. He served in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart among other decorations. Mr. Raughley was a project engineer for the DuPont Co., retiring in 1985. He then studied at the Arboretum School of the Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pa., was a garden guide at Winterthur Museum for eight years and attended the Academy of Lifelong Learning. As an avid gardener he was a member of several rhododendron, day lily and holly societies, and his garden was on national tours. He was also a member of the Delaware Genealogy Society. He is survived by Pauline, his loving wife of 63 years; two daughters, Rose Anne Marie Zerra and her husband Paul and two grandsons David and Luke, all of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Paulette Raughley-Gervason and her husband Ron of Taos, N.M.; his brother, William E. Raughley and wife Shirley of Bay City, Texas; his sister, Elizabeth Campbell of Smyrna; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr Raughley and his wife were charter members of the Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Road, Chatham, where the funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Del. 896, Bear at 1 p.m. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund or to a favorite charity in his name.
