DOVER - Frances M. Zurkow died Oct. 23, 2009, at Westminster Health Care Center in Dover. Born April 6, 1922, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Bernard S Miller and Alyce (Leaf) Miller. Her maternal grandfather, William B. Leaf, was a founder and publisher of several Jewish newspapers, including the Jewish Daily Forward of New York. After her graduation from West Philadelphia High School, where her classmates voted her Most Likely To Succeed, she attended secretarial school. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Army in Fredericksburg, Va. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Zurkow, DDS of Dover; and by her younger sister, Gloria Posner. Mrs. Zurkow is survived by her children, Pamela Zurkow Pramuka of Moloa'a, Hawaii, and Jeffrey Leaf Zurkow of Camden, Maine. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 27, at Beth Emeth Memorial Park, Faulkland Road, Wilmington.
