DOVER — Four arrests were made following a shooting in the area of White Oak Road and Stevenson Drive on Wednesday, Dover police said.
While no injuries occurred, authorities said two homes and an occupied vehicle were struck by gunfire around 2:20 p.m.
After a review of surveillance video, Jaden Jenkins, 20, and Daniel Fears, 24, were arrested, along with 12- and 17-year-old males, Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
Police determined that a rear passenger exited a black Hyundai with New Jersey tags and fired multiple shots at the vehicle, striking it at least twice, before fleeing. As the shots were being discharged, the Hyundai’s driver made a U-turn on Stevenson Drive, striking a curb and causing front-end damage.
A search ensued, and an unoccupied black 2012 Hyundai Sonata with New Jersey tags was found in the area of Long Point and North Creek roads, Sgt. Hoffman said.
The Sonata, previously reported stolen, was disabled and had heavy damage to its front.
After further investigation, a man matching the shooter’s description was seen on surveillance footage from a city camera. He was seen leaving a residence in the 200 block of West Reed Street about an hour before the shooting, police said.
Footage also captured the suspect, who was wearing the same clothing as the shooter, return to the home on West Reed Street, Sgt. Hoffman said. Police subsequently identified Mr. Jenkins, a Dover resident, as the alleged shooter.
Police said the juveniles were with Mr. Jenkins during the incident. Officers also determined that the 17-year-old Dover male was driving the suspect vehicle and that the 12-year-old from Camden was a passenger, Sgt. Hoffman said.
A search warrant for the home was obtained and executed at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Jenkins and the juveniles were taken into custody, along with Mr. Fears, also of Dover.
Officers discovered the clothing worn by Mr. Jenkins in the videos, along with a 9 mm Taurus handgun.
Mr. Jenkins was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (two counts), first-degree reckless endangering (five counts), criminal mischief (three counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving stolen property and second-degree conspiracy (two counts). He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $120,500 cash bond.
The 17-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (two counts), second-degree conspiracy (two counts) and receiving stolen property. He was committed to Stevenson House Detention Center, Milford, on a $16,000 secured bond.
The 12-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (two counts), second-degree conspiracy (two counts) and receiving stolen property. He was committed to Stevenson House on a $13,000 secured bond.
Mr. Fears was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, due to being in the home where the gun was found, police said. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $20,000 secured bond.
While police said all four suspects have addresses other than the Reed Street residence, they were all connected to it.
Sgt. Hoffman said the adults and juveniles were not related to each other. He did not release any further details.
