Florence Nolan, 89

DOVER - Florence Nolan, of Dover, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008. She was 89.

Born on Sept. 20, 1918, Florence enjoyed and celebrated life every day for more than 89 years.

Born in the borough of Manhattan Island in New York City, N.Y., Florence was one of eight children of the late Joe McCormack and Grace Herbert McCormack.

In great Irish tradition, Florence and her sisters, Grace, May, Renie, Margie, Kitty and Eleanor and her brother Joe, all deceased, forever had a zest for life.

Florence, after graduating from Bryant High School in 1936, went to work for the Internal Revenue Service and later for Sears & Roebuck Co.

In the fall of 1942 entered the love of her life, Peter F. Nolan Jr. They were married on Valentine's Day in 1943.

They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Florence and Peter moved from New York to live in North Weymouth, Mass.

They then moved to Dover in 1963 with their five children.

In late 1982 they retired and moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where they enjoyed many loving friends.

In the summer of 2005 they moved back again to Dover.

Florence loved life. She was a stay-at-home mom participating in her children's school activities and volunteering numerous hours at Dover Little League.

She enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees.

From participating with her children's school activities, helping out with Little League baseball, enjoying the casinos, watching the horse races, to enjoying 51 cruises with husband Peter, enjoying Manhattans in Manhattan, traveling - life was always great.

Florence loved more than anything her family and friends. Of strong religious belief, Florence was a devoted Catholic.

Florence is survived by her best friend and husband, Peter F. Nolan Jr. of Dover; son Peter F. Nolan III and his wife Susie of Providence Forge, Va.; daughter, Kathleen Resh and her late husband Jim of Dover; son, Joseph P. Nolan and his wife Missy of Kennett Square, Pa.; daughter, Florence Gail Coverdale and her late husband Steve of Bear; and son, Mike Nolan of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, Stephen, Amy and David Coverdale, Kim, Sara, Erin, Anna and Katie Nolan, Christine Resh Zlock and husband Andy, Jimmy Resh, and Jill Resh, Peter Nolan and wife Susan and Stephanie Nolan Senogles and husband Mark; 13 great-grandchildren, Zach and Drew Zlock, Ashely and Jordan Resh, Luis Resh, Chanel Dotson, Mariah, Morgan, and McKenzie Senogles, Matt, Caroline, John Henry and Kimberley Nolan; extended family, Amy Resh, Luis Rios; and forever close to their hearts and always by their side, Flo and Pete's lovable sidekick, Mike the dog.

Relatives and friends are invited to enjoy a memorial service for Florence at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be given to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, a lovely and caring organization that cared for a loving and caring person in her final days with all of us.

Letters of condolence may be sent to www.torbertfuneral.com.
