We are living in difficult times in the city of Dover. It is time for more citizens to pick up the banner for a positive change. Our small city has approximately 40,000 residents.
It is time for all the citizens to get involved in what is happening in our great city! We have a prostitution issue, a drug issue, a gun violence/gang issue, a homelessness issue, a mental health issue and many other issues that need to be addressed.
I am not saying I have all the answers or that you need to agree with my assessment of the city. However, it is time to get off the sidelines if you do not like the direction the city is going in.
I encourage citizens to do their individual homework on the multiple issues facing our great city. The city’s webpage has an archive section of past City Council meetings. These archives have videos, with audio. Plus, I encourage citizens to reach out to their individual council representatives in their individual districts and professionally voice their individual issues, fears and concerns.
Without involvement from our citizens, the city will continue to run as it has. If you are comfortable with yearly increases in fees and utility bills or possible tax increases, then do nothing. If you are having difficulties keeping your head above water, then the time to get involved is now.
Start attending the council meetings and call the council representative for your district. Let your voice be heard!
Lastly, you need to register to vote for the next election. It is not my place to tell anyone who to vote for. Do your research and vote for the candidate who you believe will do the better job. Remember, if you do not take the time to vote or get involved in the city, you cannot complain about the results that you do not agree with or believe are harmful to your bank account.
