Faust: Downtown Dover Partnership is out of touch

Posted

I just recently read the article about the Downtown Dover Partnership using art to cover up blemishes on homes. This is like putting lipstick on a pig.

My major concern is that this artwork is going to cover or conceal structural issues on a property. My next worry is, where is the partnership getting the $500 to reimburse the artists? No city funds should be used for a project for personal properties.

With all the issues facing the city and its downtown problems, resources and moneys should not be used for paint to cover blemishes on structures.

The partnership should be more concerned about cleaning up the prostitution, homelessness, drugs and other criminal activity occurring downtown.

If these topics are not addressed and corrected, the downtown project will be dead on arrival and a waste of the tax dollars invested in it.

I personally feel that this project will not revitalize downtown Dover. It brings to mind a movie, “The Money Pit,” which came out in 1986. We just have to look at Atlantic City, New Jersey’s casinos and the Camden, New Jersey, riverfront initiative, which both promised residents the world and fell flat.
