DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Eugenia May Milholen, 81, of Daytona Beach, reached the final destination of her life's journey and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011. Born Eugenia May Shields (but known as Jean) on April 7, 1930, in Dover, Del., Jean graduated from Dover High School in 1948. In October of 1949, she married a career military man, and while traveling the world over, gave birth to three daughters, each born in a different city: Linda Ann, born in London, England in 1954, Diana Joyce, born in Dover, Delaware in 1955, and Jo Ann, born in Tokyo, Japan in 1966. Jean is survived by her three daughters, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are her older sister, Virginia Simmons, and younger brother, Walter Shields. Her parents, William and Martha Shields, and her older brother William Shields, preceded Jean in death. Jean will be remembered fondly as a strong, honest, salt-of-the-earth woman who loved unconditionally and gave generously of herself, especially to her children. In her lifetime, Jean showed intelligence and a quiet sense of adventure by co-owning and operating Atlantic Roofing and Sheet Metal Company, Inc. with business partners and friends, Oscar and Rosellyn Roberts, becoming a licensed roofing contractor in the state of Florida, and sharing her love of dancing by studying and performing belly dancing in her forties and fifties. Keeping in line with her quiet nature in life, Jean requested that upon her passing, no interment service be held; a memorial gathering will be held at a later time. To honor her wishes and her belief in supporting those experiencing life challenges, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
