Estelle Stavely Bennett

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Estelle Stavely Bennett, 91, formerly of Chestertown, passed away peacefully at home, in Lewes, with her daughter by her side, on Aug. 2, 2010. Estelle was born on April 3, 1919, daughter of the late Harry and Edith McKay Stavely. In 1944, she married Leonard Frank Bennett. She had worked for Harford Mutual Ins. Company for 30 years, retiring in 1984. She also loved reading and worked part-time for Chestertown Library for 14 years. Estelle moved to Lewes, Del., in 2006 to be close with her daughter Sue, after the death of her husband and daughter. She met a lot of lovely friends, who she enjoyed playing bingo with, and she also enjoyed reading, needle point and her cat 'George'. She was a 60 year member of St. Paul's Parish-Kent, and also a member of the DAR and Literary Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F. Bennett in 2004; her daughter, Teresa Brown in 2006; a brother, James R. Stavely; and a granddaughter, Alison Brown. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter Susan Bennett of Lewes, Del.; three grandchildren, Harold Brown, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Still Pond, Md., Jeffrey Brown and his wife Debbie of York, Pa., and Terry Lee Carlson and her husband Dan of Jamestown, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Brown and his wife Mary, Hillary and Hailey Schilling of and Tabitha Marks; and two brothers, William Stavely of Salisaw, Okla., and David Stavely of Salisbury, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Davis of Chestertown. A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6, in St. Paul's Cemetery, Chestertown, Md. Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech. www.galenafuneralhomeofsls.com
