Estelle M. 'Stella' Cox, 71

SMYRNA - Estelle M. "Stella" Cox, of Smyrna, ended her journey on earth Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 71.

Mrs. Cox was born Oct. 22, 1936, in Wilmington, daughter of the late John T. and Susanna (Gill) Wallace.

She worked as a nurse's assistant and telephone operator for the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna, for several years before retirement.

Mrs. Cox was a member of the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill Volunteer Services and also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna, where she helped coordinate church dinners.

Mrs. Cox cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren and loved working on various crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Cox is survived by three daughters, Susan E. Gallop and her husband Dwight of New Castle, Joan E. Davis and her husband Edward of Clayton and Patricia A. McClements and her husband Gilbert of Clayton; two sisters, Mildred Cox of Clayton and Joan Cox of Newark; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
