GRASONVILLE, Md. - Emma Delores (Bordley) Handy, of Grasonville went home to be with God, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 26. 1931, to the late Alexander and Sadie Bordley at Batt's Neck, Stevensville. She was married to the late Alfred R. Handy, until his death in 1994. She was educated in the public schools of Queen Anne's County, graduating from Kennard High School in 1947. Later she enrolled at Chesapeake College, graduated with an associates degree. She continued her education receiving a bachelors degree from Bowie University and a masters degree from University of Maryland. She began her teaching experiences in 1964, working in the enrichment program. From 1966 to 1981, she taught in the classroom at Kent Island Elementary school. From 1981 to 1994, she was assistant principal at Kent Island Elementary and Bayside Elementary Schools. She retired in 1994 and returned to Kent Island Elementary, as a tutor until her health started to fail. She was a member of numerous civic, education and community organizations. As a member of Bryans United Methodist Church she held many, many positions and loved to sing in her church. She is survived by three sons, Larrie, Donald and Kevin; one sister, Shirley Wright; 15 grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. "A true people person believing that one of the best things to do for our Heavenly Father, is to be kind and good to his children," was her belief. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Union Wesley United Methodist Church, Chester, where a viewing will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Queen Anne's. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
