Emily J. Morris Thompson, 78

DOVER - Emily J. Morris Thompson, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 78. She was born on April 2, 1930, in Hershey, Pa. She received her bachelors degree in education from Millersville State College in Pennsylvania. Emily had worked for Star Hill in the Caesar Rodney School District. She also taught at Gallagher Elementary in Newark. After 35 years as an elementary teacher she retired in 1991. She was a very active person and was involved in a walking group. She was with a card group who met in various homes. Emily was a member of the Colonel Haslet Chapter, where she served as Chapter Librarian and the Cameo Society Branch, both of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Friends of the Delaware Archives, where she was membership chair, a member of the Colonial Danes, Down State Delaware Genealogical Society, Crimson Bonnets of Red Hatters Club, Harrington Senior Center, where she participated in the Card Group, DRSPA, DSEA-R, and Whatcoat United Methodist Church of Camden. She was preceded in death by her father, George E. Morris; and her husband, Clarence Thompson in 1999. She is survived by her mother, Naomi Narcissa (Smith) Morris of Cornwall Manor, Pa.; a daughter, Donna W. Josefowski and her husband Larry of Dover; two brothers, George E. Morris Jr. of Crescent City, Fla., and Robert S. Morris of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, Robert Josefowski and Kaitlin Josefowski, both of Dover; and former husband, Dr. Donald R. Wilkinson of Rehoboth Beach. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
