HARRINGTON - Elwood R. Brown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, in John Hopkins Hospital. He was 74. He was born March 3, 1934 to the late Odoth and Ella Brown. Elwood was a public accountant who ran his own business for 30+ years, Browns Accounting of Harrington. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, spending most of his time in Hawaii where he played baseball. Mr. Brown was a man whose smile could brighten your whole day and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed fishing with the grandkids, as well as turkey and rabbit hunting. He was an avid golfer and one time member of Jonathan's Landing Golf Club. Mr. Brown was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington. He loved God and he was always studying the Bible. Mr. Brown enjoyed helping others and he loved to visit nursing homes and hospitals where he could pray for people. He never complained and immensely enjoyed his 6:30 a.m. morning coffee club. Mr. Brown also loved to reminisce and tell stories. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Norman Brown and Alvin Brown; and sisters, Grace Wainwright and Anna Lee Hitchens. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty Brown, of Harrington; sons, Kyle Brown, of Milford and Jason Brown, of Viola; five grandchildren; brothers, Marvin Brown, of Felton, Harold Brown, of Dover, and Wayne Brown, of Dover; and a sister, Joann Bowdle, of Worton, Md. Funeral Services were 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at Calvary Wesleyan Church, 203 Delaware Ave., Harrington. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
