GREENWOOD - Elvin Schrock, of Greenwood, was born Sept. 26, 1917, to Asa and Amanda (Bender) Schrock in Springs, Pa. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 28, 2011. He was 93 years, 11 months. As a youth he worked in the coal mines in Garret County, Md. He moved to Greenwood, in 1940 where he married Alma Troyer. They were members of the Greenwood Mennonite Church. They were blessed with six children. Surviving are Elda, (Kenneth) Layton, Marlin (Janice) Schrock, Merlin (Linda) Schrock, Delores (Stuart) Mast, all of Greenwood, and Bernice (Donald) Geiser, of Harrington. Preceding him in death was Janice (Bill) Root, of Harrington. Elvin and Alma enjoyed 67 years of married life together prior to her home going in 2008. Besides his parents, also preceding him in death were his three sisters, Verda, Melda, and Saloma, and one brother, Orval, all of Accident, Md. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iva Yoder of Greenwood, and many nieces and nephews. His pride and joy was his family. He was always ready to forget his own work and reach out and help others. He began his plumbing business, Elvin Schrock & Sons, Inc. in 1955, and taught his sons and grandsons to go on with his trade. They worked together for many years and are still operating the business he started. He taught them honesty and integrity by example as well as how to deal with people kindly. He had the spiritual gift of "giving" which often resulted in reaching out to others in need. Friends may call from 6-9 Wednesday evening at the Greenwood Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greenwood Mennonite School, 12802 Mennonite School Road, Greenwood, DE 19950 or Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
