LEWES - Elva M. Short passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012, in Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. Elva was born in Coolspring, daughter of the late Theodore B. and Ethel (Veasey) Marvel. She thoroughly loved being a homemaker. Elva was an active member, for over 60 years, of Harbeson Homemakers Club (now known as Sussex County Cooperative Extension) and was also very involved at the state level, where she had served a term as President. She loved everything to do with homemaking, including; baking, gardening, canning, crafting and enjoyed antiquing. Elva also had a loving kindness for animals, especially dogs. Elva was also very involved with her church, and was a life member of St. George's Chapel in Harbeson. In addition to her parents, Elva is preceded in death by her husband: William F. Short, in 1992. She is survived by two sons, Ted Short and wife Peggy, of Milford and Vernon C. Short and companion Patricia Parisi, of Lewes; a daughter, Patricia F. Brittingham, of New Castle; three grandchildren, Shellie and Stephanie Short, Tony Parisi and wife Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Marie Short, Jonah and Allison Parisi; niece, Ann Brock; and nephew, Joe Short. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at St. George's Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, De. Burial will immediately follow in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. George's Chapel, c/o All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Milton.
