DOVER - Elva C. Hindman, of Dover, died Monday, April 21, 2008, with her family in attendance at her residence. She was 85.
Born in Lilly, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah A. Leahey and Sara J. (Ritchey) Leahey.
Mrs. Hindman moved from Alexandria, Va., to Dover, where she had been a resident since 1946.
A dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, she was a faithful member of Holy Cross Church, where she served with the Altar Society.
Mrs. Hindman was a Past Prefect of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and donated her time for many years with the Catholic Social Services Thrift Shop.
She also served for many years with the Junior Board of Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin "Frank" Hindman, in 1993.
Mrs. Hindman leaves her daughter, Rosemary H. Hayes of West Chester, Pa.; two sons, F. Fred Hindman of Enola, Pa., and John B. Hindman of Felton; one sister, Mary Lytle of Paulsboro, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church, South State Street, Dover.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
The family suggests donations in her memory to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
