Elma Coulbourn SEAFORD - Elma Coulbourn, known as "Mother Coulbourn" was born to the late Marie Farlow Roberts and Charles Coulbourn on November 19, 1909 in Portsville, Delaware. She went to be with Jesus on May 13, 2010 at the age of 100 while as a resident of the Genesis Elder Care, Seaford, Del. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lloyd Farlow, Ray, Arthur and Vernon Coulbourn, Ethel Coulbourn Jordon, Pauline Williams; and a son, Thomas Lloyd Ross. "Mother Coulbourn" named by her Pastor Cannon, received her education from the school in Portsville, Del. She would always tell how she had to carry her baby sister (Pauline) to school with her while their mother worked. They later moved to Seaford, Del. where after the sixth grade, she started to work. She was employed over a number of years with Buddy Wright's Tomato Factory, Fryling Grocery Store, the Delaney Factory, with most of her time and retiring from the Swift Poultry Plant in Georgetown, Del. After retirement she became a devoted employee with Delaware Home Companion until her health prevented her to continue. Mother Coulbourn's mother, Marie Roberts collected the first monies for the building of the first Church of God in East Seaford. Mother Coulbourn accepted the Lord as her personal savior in the early 30's. She has been an active and faithful member of the Church of God from Rev. Stanley till the present leadership of Pastor Carlton Cannon. She has faithfully served as a member of the Usher Board, Prayer Band, Ladies Willing Worker Band, Sunday School, Kitchen Committee and participated in Noon Day Prayer. Whenever there was a service, she was sure to be present, sometimes the first one and in her favorite seat (second seat from the front next to the west wall). Her devotion to the church was not in the least hampered, even in the face of her illness. When she had problems walking she used crutches and when she could not use crutches she would use the wheel chair. She was a person of great faith, prayerful, loved the word, strong minded, creative and had a great sense of humor. Special thanks to Pastor Cannon and Sis. Cannon for spoiling Mother Coulbourn with candy and providing cards and flowers for her while at Genesis Seaford Center. Their devoted love and faithfulness for her will never be forgotten. She leave to cherish her memory, daughter-in-law, Mamie Ross, Camden N.J.; two granddaughters, Yvette Ross-Wearing (Tauhid) and Antoinette Davis (Angelo) all of Camden, N.J.; four nephews, Deacon Vernon Roberts (Esther), whom she raised as her own son of Bridgeville, Del., Pastor Willie Williams Jr. (Yvonne), Glassboro, N.J., Pastor Cornell Williams (Esther), Erial, N.J.; four nieces, Rita Broadly (Nelson, deceased) and Diane Mims, Pennsauken, N.J., Joan Barnes of Clayton, N.J., Crystal Street (Anthony) of Newark, Del.; five great grandchildren, Angelo Jr., Emerald, Jayda, Lonnie and Jayml, one great-great-grandchild; two faithful adopted daughters (sisters of her son Thomas), Hattie Hopkins and Minister Alberta Waples and a host of other relatives and friends.
