Elizabeth Pearl Farley, 94
FREDERICA, DE - Elizabeth Pearl Farley passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on July 26, 2023. She was affectionately known to her friends and family as Bunchy or Granny. Her generous and caring nature has left a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to know her.
Elizabeth was born on December 17, 1928, in Toe River Township, NC, the daughter of the late Jeter Ronald Carpenter and Ethel Jane Burleson. Elizabeth spent her early years in North Carolina before moving to Coal City, West Virginia, where she met her late husband Jesse. She spent many years traveling with Jesse's military career, stationed in Kansas, Illinois, England, Newfoundland and Virginia before they settled in Delaware. While her husband was serving in the Air Force, Elizabeth devoted herself fully to the role of caring for her sons, Jerry and Daniel. She was often the sole caregiver when Jesse was deployed overseas and at war.
Her greatest passion in life was her family. Whether it was cooking Thanksgiving dinner, feeding ducks at the pond with her grandchildren, shopping for school clothes, or watching her great-grandchildren playing, her most joyful moments were spent with her loved ones. She also found great joy in gardening, reading, and listening to country music. Elizabeth was an animal lover, with a special fondness for chihuahuas and her cat Sweetie Pie. She was also known for her infamous sweet tooth, leaving a trail of candy wrappers wherever she went.
Elizabeth was very independent, living at home until the age of 94. During the last years of her life, she was blessed with the help of incredible friends, neighbors and caregivers, Paula Thompson and Joe Morris, and the support of her son Dan.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Jesse in 1987; her son, Jerry Farley; her siblings, Wesley Carpenter, J.R. Carpenter, and Velma Buchanan Barnes.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Dan (Tina Hession) Farley of Marydel, DE; her grandchildren, Jolene Farley of Cañon City, CO, Jesse Farley of Denver, CO, Jessica (Scott) Sweeten of Bear, DE, Rachel (David) Silowka of Middletown, DE; and her great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaylee, Julius, Anna and James.
Funeral services and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Caroline County Humane Society.
