Elizabeth Humble Carter, 83

DOVER - Elizabeth Humble Carter, of Dover, died on June 20, 2009, at the age of 83. She was the daughter of the late John R. Humble and Louise Littlepage Humble of Monroe, La. She was a 1942 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe and received a BS degree in Mathematics in 1945 from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. She also attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Upon graduation, she married Charles B. Carter of Ruston. Moving more than thirty times as a result of transfers with DuPont Company, Elizabeth managed to raise three children and taught mathematics in high schools in Seaford, Waynesboro, Va., and Chattanooga, Tenn. After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the world by ship. Elizabeth was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed crafts, playing bridge, and rooting for her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. In the last year of her life, she moved to Dover from Asheville, N.C., to be closer to her daughter. Mrs. Carter will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son, John R. Carter on Jan. 18, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles B. Carter Sr., a resident at the northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, Monroe; her daughter, Beverly C. Williams of Dover; her son, Charles B. Carter Jr. and spouse Kay of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Sean Strehle, Christopher Strehle, CJ Carter and Kayse L. Carter; and two great-grandchildren, Cody Strehle and Riley Minner. Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. July 16, at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Chapel, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations in her memory to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Arrangements are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director, Inc. Dover. Condolences may be forwarded and guest book signed via www.ambruso.com.
