Elisabeth “Liz” Langham, of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2026, in the loving embrace of her husband, Ed, her daughters, Carol and Susie, and her cat, Gabby.
Liz was born on April 12, 1943, and grew up in Trier, Germany. She met and fell in love with her husband of 62 years, Ed, who was stationed there with the USAF. They married and moved to the United States with their daughter, Carol, in 1965.
Liz is survived by her husband, Edward “Ed” Langham, daughters Carol Langham and Susie Langham, granddaughter, Madison King, sister, Charlotte Clarke, and her beloved cat, Gabby.
Liz loved the outdoors and frequently hiked the trails through Killen’s Pond, Bombay Hook, Brecknock Park, Hunn Park, and Cape Henlopen. Over the years she travelled to many National Parks. She was an avid bicyclist and skier. She practiced tai chi at the Modern Maturity Center, was a long-standing member of the German American Club, and attended several classes through DTCC including Spanish, world religions, local history, etc. Liz would immediately get up to dance upon hearing an ABBA song, enjoyed quesadillas and margueritas at Applebee’s, and got Chinese takeout almost every Sunday at Maggie’s.
Liz worked for many years at Hess Apparel in the Blue Hen Mall with her best friend, Reingard Anson. She and Reingard have shared many amazing adventures together. Liz later put her excellent math skills to use working at the Dover Federal Credit Union. After retiring from DFCU, she became a passionate volunteer at both the Dover Blood Bank and Kent General Hospital. At the Blood Bank, Liz rushed with cookies and juice to those feeling faint, calming their fears and assuring them they had nothing to be embarrassed about. At KGH, she pushed the candy cart all over the hospital providing much needed sugar and her bright smile to the exhausted, appreciative staff. At home she knitted beautiful baby blankets which she then donated to new mothers in the nursery.
There are too many wonderful qualities to list them all, but she was the best wife and mother, a leader among her friends, brave, loyal, honest, smart, FUNNY, stylish, sensitive, hopeful, grateful, and charismatic. It cannot go unsaid that she had the most beautiful high cheek bones. Liz was taken from us much too soon, but we have the peace of knowing she is now in Heaven with her mama, Anna.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 30th, 2026, 12pm at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
