Eleanor L. Warrington

MILTON - Eleanor L. Warrington, a prominent Milton businesswoman and banker, died Feb. 20, 2011, at Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a short illness. The former Eleanor Lank began her career in banking at Sussex Trust Company in 1949 where she was a Vice President, Secretary, and Manager of the Milton Sussex Trust branch for many years. She previously had worked as a secretary for the McLean Agency of the Massachusetts Indemnity Insurance Company in Philadelphia until 1949. She was also the owner and proprietor of Waples Lumber Company in Milton from 1962, after her first husband died, until 2005. She was a member of the Nanticoke Hospital Ladies Auxiliary in Seaford for many years and served as the treasurer. Mrs. Warrington enjoyed traveling, spending quality time with her family and friends, and attending theater productions at the Playhouse in the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington. She married Sinclair Campbell, Jr., in 1950; he died in 1962. She married Ford M. Warrington, of Laurel and Rehoboth, in 1974. Mr. Warrington died in 1979. She was a Laurel resident for many years after his death until 2005 when she moved to Westminster Village Assisted Living in Dover where she had many friends and received wonderful care from the staff. Mrs. Warrington was born Eleanor Rae Lank on June 23, 1920, in Milton, to Raymond M. Lank and Laura E. Moore, both of Milton. She graduated in 1937 from Lewes High School and graduated in 1939 from Banks Business College in Philadelphia. Survivors include a brother, Albert H. Lank; a nephew, Christopher Lank, and his wife, Nancy; niece, Janet Lank; niece, Sharon Owens, and her fiance George Glenn; six great-nieces and nephews, Timothy Lank and wife, Suzanne, Susan Tolbert and husband, Philip, the Rev. Thomas Lank and wife Dr. Gretchen Boger; Kimberly Owens, Keri Rapa and husband, Michael, and Katie Joseph and husband, Eric. She also is survived by nine great-great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Warrington is also survived by two stepdaughters, Sue Warrington-Doud, of Rehoboth, and Dr. Jan Warrington and her husband, Frank Starr, of Baltimore, Md.; and a stepgrandaughter, Sloane Doud, of Rehoboth. Services will be held at the Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be held after the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Laurel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Westminster Village Employee Appreciation Fund, 1175 McKee Road, Dover, DE 19904.
