Elder Granville Brittingham passed on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016. The eldest surviving son of Elder Jacob, Sr., and Virginia Brittingham, was born on March 8, 1924, in Berlin, Md. He and some of his siblings moved to Delaware with their parents in 1938. Granville attended schools in Worcester County, Md., and Sussex County. He married Zelda Young on March 31, 1945. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage until her death on July 25, 2006. His Christian life was nutured at Bright Hope Baptist Church, Berlin, Md.; Tindley Temple United Methodist Church, Philadelphia, Pa.; Mt. Zion Holy Church, Milton; and Mt. Sinai Tabernacle, Milford. He served in several capacities as Mt. Zion, including Sunday School Superintendent and Assistant Pastor. In 1956, he was ordained elder by the Board of Presbyters of Mount Sinai Holy Church of America, Inc. He was appointed as pastor of Mt. Pisgah Holy Church, Easton, Md., where he faithfully served from 1957 to 1995. In 1995, until his death, he served as the associate pastor of Mt. Sinai Tabernacle. He was a member of the Board of Directors and Board of Presbyters of MSHCA. He served as President of Missionary Union, Eastern Shore. He was appointed to serve as Vice-President and President of the Maryland-D.C. State Workers Meeting. Elder Brittingham sponsored services aired on WANN radio station. He was appointed Presiding Elder for the State of Maryland in 1993. He was the last original pastor of the Middle District of the Mount Sinai Holy Church of America, Inc., which was formed in 1962. Elder Brittingham also assisted the chaplains at Sussex Correctional Prison Ministry. He is survived by sisters, Bishop Grace Ruth Batten and Esther K. Knapp; brother, James Brittingham, of Milton; Pastor and Caregivers (nephew) Elder Elmer Bratten (Peggy); and sons, Andrew (Courtney), Aaron and Joseph, of Dover; two sisters-in-law, Elder Ida M. Brittingham, of Richmond, Va., and Naomi Young, of Milford; a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial celebration will be on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mt. Zion Holy Church, 308 Front St., Milton, DE 19968. The celebration of life service will be on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Eagles Nest Fellowship Church, 26633 Zion Church Rd., Milton, DE 19968.
