Eight Downstate teams make DIAA wrestling state tournaments

DOVER — Eight Henlopen Conference teams have made the two fields for the DIAA wrestling state tournaments that were determined this morning.

Six Downstate squads are in the eight-team bracket in Division I, where Henlopen North champion Sussex Central is the No. 1 seed.

Lake Forest is seeded third in Division II.

The tournaments begin on Wednesday with quarterfinal matches at 7 p.m. at the higher-seeded team. The tourney concludes on Saturday at Smyrna High with the semifinals at 2 p.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.

In Division I matches involving Henlopen schools on Wednesday, No. 1 Sussex Central (12-0) hosts No. 8 Sussex Tech (9-8); No. 4 Caesar Rodney (9-3) hosts No. 5 William Penn (11-4); No. 3 Cape Henlopen (15-4) hosts No. 6 Smyrna (9-7); and No. 2 Salesianum (5-4) hosts No. 7 Milford (9-4).

In Division II, No. 3 Lake Forest (14-4) hosts No. 6 Tower Hill (11-6) and No. 4 Laurel (10-4) hosts No. 5 Caravel (6-5).

In the other first-round two Division II matches, No. 1 Saint Mark’s (6-4) hosts No. 8 A.I. DuPont (9-3) while No. 2 Delaware Military (8-0) hosts No. 7 Red Lion Christian (2-10).

All matches on Wednesday will begin with the 285-pound match.
