GEORGETOWN - Edna J. Powell, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in her home. She was 79. Edna was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Elmer and Clara (Spicer) Jewell. Edna was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking. Many years ago she owned and operated Edna's Beauty Shop. She was a member of Georgetown Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Powell; and a sister, Minnie Watson. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce L. and Denice Powell; two grandchildren, Jason Powell and Emilee Powell, all of Georgetown; a niece to whom she was very close, Elaine Reynolds; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, with visitation after noon. Burial will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Georgetown. Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
