Earl Leroy Mays

DOVER - Earl Leroy Mays passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 in Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Mays was born July 5, 1934 on Long Island, N.Y. to the late Earl Mays, Sr., and Dorothy Wueger Mays. He was the oldest of 10 children. He moved to Delaware from Long Island, N.Y. to farm with the Zimmerman family in the early 1950's. He also worked at TR-AD-SE as a truck driver and courier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Richard. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patsy E. Mays of Dover; two daughters, Terry Ginn and her husband James of Middletown, Debra and her husband Dr. Mark C. McDowell of Bear; son, Earl "Randy" Mays and his wife Anne of Gaithersburg, Md.; four grandchildren, Chris Ginn and his wife Tracey, of Newark, Lauren Ginn of Arlington, Va., Kathryn Mays of Gaithersburg, Md., and Matthew McDowell of Bear; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Melanie Ginn. He is also survived by seven siblings, Robert Mays, Donald Mays, Barbara Dandridge, Marion Bellino, Beverly Fossnes, Gerald Mays and David Mays. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. A viewing for family and friends will be held one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
